Runners who have a 2017 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon entry but lack the means to secure accommodation in Cape Town on Race Weekend have until 23h59 on Monday, 6 March 2017 to submit their applications to stay at the Runners' Village.

Financial constraints often talented athletes from disadvantaged communities from participating in the world’s most beautiful marathon. As a result, the Runners’ Village was created as a way to give underprivileged runners the opportunity to be a part of the race, and realise their dream of taking part.

The selection process will start on 7 March 2017, and applicants will be informed of their application status via SMS and Email. Successful applicants will meet at the OMTOM Expo (Cape Town International Convention Centre) on Friday, 14 April 2017, from where they are transported to the Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology in Tokai. Meals, accommodation and transport are provided.

Runners' Village Qualification Criteria:

  • Applicants should be registered with a recognised and ASA-affiliated athletic club.
  • Runners must have entered and qualified for the 2017 Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon.
  • First preference will be given to 56km novices or previously disadvantaged applicants, as well as athletes who have never stayed in the Runners’ Village before.
  • Participants should be unemployed or not earn more than R3000 per month.

Applications are open until 23h59 on 6 March, and running clubs are invited to apply on behalf of a needy club member via http://www.twooceansmarathon.org.za/information/runners-village
